Congratulations to the Bachelor of Border Management (Customs) Qatari Cohort

After a great deal of hard work 40 students from the Qatar General Authority of Customs recently graduated with the Bachelor of Border Management specialist degree.  They are being congratulated for their outstanding results and the dedication and enthusiasm that they applied to their studies.

The Bachelor of Border Management (Customs) is a course for sponsored customs officers, and officers in other law enforcement agencies with a border/customs focus, as is designed to enhance their professional practice and knowledge within their own jurisdiction.

The Qatari students completed the existing study pattern for the Bachelor of Border Management and undertook a 4th Year practice based specialisation.  This allowed them to transition the knowledge and skills gained from earlier subjects in the course from the international law basis, upon which these subjects have been founded, to their own domestic law and practice.

The students participated in daily lectures delivered by Charles Sturt staff on campus in Doha, completed assignments and undertook field education on policy and practice in their workplace which culminated in the group delivery of an improvement project/implementation plan.

In commenting on the project reports in this final capstone subject, Charles Sturt Lecturer Peter Rickard said “I was very pleased with the very high standards that were demonstrated by the student teams in their reports and presentations.  The teams delivered some very professional products of high quality that would be worthy of consideration by their administration.”

Lecturer Letchmee Naidoo, in agreeing with Peter, said “It made me proud to see how these learners have taken what they have learnt and put that forward so professionally in their presentations”.  The students too were supportive of the benefits of the study and the learning experience more generally.

As well as being congratulated on their graduation success, a number in this cohort have also received special recognition from Charles Sturt University by being recently announced as recipients of the prestigious Executive Deans Award in respect of their final year of study.  These students will be officially informed of their awards next week.
