Peter Nash
With a career spanning nearly four decades, Peter commenced with the Australian Customs Service in 1972 and retired from the Australian Border Force in 2011. During this time, he led national initiatives including the review of container examination facilities, coordination of cargo enforcement, and the “Frontline” industry outreach programme. His management experience extended across intelligence, enforcement, and airport operations, complemented by international assignments as a technical adviser in Papua New Guinea and Head of Customs in Tonga. He also contributed to policy development through the review of smuggling offences related to tobacco importations.

Peter continues to work alongside customs administrations worldwide, serving as Technical Adviser to Vanuatu’s Department of Customs & Inland Revenue for five years and later guiding reforms in Myanmar, Mongolia, Laos, Cambodia, and Palau. His work has encompassed risk management strategies, anti‑smuggling action plans, compliance frameworks, and legislative drafting, alongside training and the promotion of green trade initiatives. He completed a Master of Customs Administration in 2023, underscoring his ongoing commitment to advancing modern, sustainable customs practices.
