Description

The rapid increase in e-commerce has led to a significant rise in low-value shipments, requiring customs administrations to adapt their processes to handle higher volumes efficiently.

Join Associate Professor Bryce Blegen (Trusted Trade Institute), Varsha Singh (Seychelles Revenue Commission) and Paul Zalai (Freight and Trade Alliance) for a panel presentation exploring the different strategies adopted by organisations for managing the increased volume of low-value shipments, addressing valuation and classification complexities, and mitigating the risk of illicit goods.

Specific focus will be on:

  • risk assessments and inspections and how they have adapted to the e-commerce boom;
  • the degree to which customs administrations are facilitating or hindering e-commerce through their streamlined or standard clearance procedures and the implications of these procedures for global trade, revenue collection etc.; and
  • how customs administrations are building capability and capacity within their workforce to manage the risk, scale, and nature of the low-value shipments.
