Elements of International Trade – Commercial Transactions Workshop

In response to a request by the ACT Exporters Network and the ACT Government, CCES Senior Lecturers Brent Juratowitch and Dr. Mikhail Kashubsky were engaged to facilitate a workshop on International Trade Commercial Transactions on 19th November 2014 in Canberra.

Over the past few months the ACT Exporters Network (AEN) had received a number of requests from local Canberra exporters and potential exporters to hold a workshop on Export documentation and Incoterms. After securing sponsorship support from the ACT Government, AEN engaged the Centre for Customs and Excise Studies to deliver a workshop on their behalf.  The day long workshop covered the key topics of:

  • Definition of an International Trade Transaction?
  • Terms of Trade between Seller and Buyer in the Contract of Sale
  • Incoterms
  • International Carriage of Goods
  • Financing and Insurance

Representatives from agribusiness, ICT, advanced manufacturing and banking/finance companies attended. Feedback on the day was that these types of  workshops dealing with the practical issues, problems and challenges involved in international trade, are essential for Australian companies to  take advantage of the multilateral and bilateral efforts at trade liberalisation. Follow up workshops are planned for 2015.
